There are 2 Sides to every Door

Because one project is never enough. No, wait, that's not the correct proverb. Because every project leads to another, the bathroom(s) remodel could not stand on its own. It gave us the perfect opportunity to replace all our interior doors. Luckily, that is only 5 doors (3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms). But 5 doors is really 10 sides when you are sanding and staining repeatedly. And then there are the door frames. In our case, we only have 3 door frames because 2 of the new doors will be pocket-doors. But still, it's a lot of surface to cover.

Normal people, I am reminded, will get pre-finished doors at the Home Depot or pay a contractor a lot of money for nice vertical-grain douglas fir doors with 3 equal size panels. Yes, we are nothing if not particular. You can see the nice color coming out on the doors - the top part of the one in the photo.

Of course, we are not normal. Thus, we spent most evenings of the last week and continuing into and beyond the weekend, sanding and staining. You have to allow for ample drying time between coats. One side can be done at a time, since the door needs to rest on the other side. And you cannot stain and sand simultaneously in the same room even if there are 2 of you due to the fine particles of dust getting everywhere, especially with the power sander. Our entire downstairs is now door city.

Anyway, the doors are looking quite nice and once they are done, we need to find a safe place to store them until we are ready for them.
