Dried lumber

This weekend we wanted to get some lumber for building new walls in our existing home. Nothing too unusual (once we abandoned the silliness of replacing major support beams): 2x4's mainly, a few 2x8's, maybe a few 2x6's. Or so we thought.

Problem: hardly anyone carries kiln-dried lumber - all the lumber is green. Green = wet. Wet = shrinkage. And well, shrinkage is unacceptable when we want to add structural elements to the existing house. We visited many a lumber dealer, made some phone calls, and were unable to locate a place which had all the lumber we need. Sigh.

Time to go visit the "professionals" - the ones that aren't open on weekends.

We were, however, able to visit some professionals slightly less resistant to dealing with the public: Import Tile and Tulip Hardwood Floors - both in Berkeley and both the standards for doing stuff right. We talked to them about how to manage the tile install and the wood floor situation given the creaky, squeaky, air-leaky subfloor planks.
