The Tub Corral

On Sunday we built the tub corral. Well, it was originally called the tub podium, per manufacturers installation guide, but once we were done, we decided it looked more like a little corral. Something to keep the tub in. While this was a simple structure, the complexities lie in making sure it is level all the way around. Also, adding to the difficulties were the overflow drain, which means the tub cannot be supported all the way around, and the fact that the front surface was not as deep, so we needed 2x3's, not 2x4's. What's a 2x3? Yeah, no kidding. We had to shave down a 2x4. Think sawdust.

Before we could build the corral, we had to put up the hardibacker for the far wall. With that in place, it is almost looking like a room - a bathroom, in fact.

So what's next? Well, only about a million things. The drain is not hooked up, yet. We want to put in the finish walls before we actually seat the tub. We also would like to cement it down. It has legs and is not required, but we think it will be sturdier and the weight of the water will be better distributed if it's cemented to the floor. 60 gallons of water - that's a lot of weight.

There are still some electrical wires which need to be run and some speaker wires. There will be speakers in the shower as well as in the bedroom, so two sets of wires in the same wall. We also need to carve out a notch in the floor for the heating duct. The duct we picked up at Home Depot yesterday seems a little big or something... so we need to look into that.
