A closet "system" is all the rage these days in closets. Or so we were told by magazines and newspapers. Our closet "area" - it's not a traditional closet type - i.e., walk-in, reach-in, or wardrobe - we call it a "walk-by" closet (tm) - was formerly the bathroom. It is a fairly small space that operates partly as a closet (or will soon) and partly as the entry to the master suite. It is the branching point between the bedroom and bathroom.
So we ordered some closet parts on the internet, as any good DIYer would, and then got to work unpacking numerous boxes and putting together numerous drawers. My first impression was that it looked good - far better than if we put together something ourselves - but was not as easy to put together as the Ikea stuff we have done in the past.
After the first weekend, we had half a closet:
And after another weekend (and some weekday) work, we have a full walkby closet installed and waiting for clothes:
Okay, there are a few thing that need to be done before we can move in to it. We need to install the soffit over the lights. We need to work out the HVAC duct. We also would like to put up the floor molding, although may not wait on that, depending on if we craft it ourselves out of left-over floor boards or if we order it (spendy and will take some time). Anyway, it's not a huge closet, but it does give both of us more space than we currently have, so that's good. And best of all - it's not an either/or closet, which we have now, where if one party is looking in their half of the closet, the other person cannot.
