Another Memorial Day Weekend, Another Weekend of Working on the House!

Can you imagine that it was ONE YEAR AGO today that we really began knocking down walls and implementing our plan for the best bathroom ever? Well, it's true. Take a look: Click Here! Okay, I'm sure there is some blog police that will get you for referring to your own old posts, but hey - it's been a year - that's some sort of anniversary!

After reading last year's post, I realize we did not do nearly the same amount of work this weekend. But, don't worry - there was demolition! And satisfaction. And a new bed!

Saturday was spent putting together, and staining the left-side of the sink shelving unit. We were then able to get cleaned up enough to make it to the Memorial Day Sale at Mancini Sleep world! Oooh-ahhh, lots of fabulous mattresses, just waiting for us to choose one. After much lying around (heh), we finally found one we liked and they said it was in-stock and they could deliver it tomorrow. That sealed the deal.
Thus, Sunday was spent primarily waiting for the new mattress to arrive. Well, that and we hung the shelving unit (pictured above), and assembled and stained the right-side unit. The right side was a little more complicated due to the angle on the shelf, but otherwise, very similar and we had worked out most of the bugs with pre-drilling the ipe.

Finally at 5 o'clock, the deliver truck arrives and they bring in the new mattress. We had decided late in the day that we only had enough time to move the old bed, not to dig out the king-size bed frame in the old closet. This area my brother refers to as "the killing room" and we started calling it that, too, as it is kind of a weird dead area in the house now. Anyway, the very large (6'x7') bed frame was there and could not easily be removed without taking down walls. These are walls that need to be removed for our final "grand plan" but how much was it worth it to not sleep on the floor? The deliver guys flung the mattress on the floor. And we slept there just fine.

But it was 3-day weekend, so that meant we could dig out the bed frame today! Hoo-ha! Demolition is my favorite. I am one with the crow bar. We took out the wall between the closets in about an hour. It took another hour to clean up - messy, dusty, nasty, coughing work it is. Cough, cough. But we got the frame out and our bed is now a proper bed. (sorry no photos - they are to come and really, it looks like a bed. also, we need to redesign the headboard still... )

Lastly, we managed to hang up the final shelving units in the bathroom! That feels good! And looks pretty good, too, if I do say so myself:

The ipe looks great. I have used it outside, and am thinking abt indoor shower walls. I would be interested in how you find cleaning, maintaining etc.
