Doors & Knobs

What else? Well, a door of course!
We put the door frames in on Saturday.
And the doors yesterday.
Lucky for us it's a 3-day weekend!

That gave us time to also put on door knobs! The rooms finally look like rooms. And in theory could now host guests.

Of course, there are still some things that need to be finished up before it is really "done". The list includes:
  • Base board molding - we will make our own again out of the bamboo flooring, so it matches
  • Door molding - again, we like to do things the hard way, so will most likely make our own. This is partially due to the unusual size of our walls with the added plywood - it means that our door jams are not wider than the wall (which is normal), so we need custom moldings to account for the 1/2-inch difference.
  • Paint - a coat of paint makes it finalized
  • Lights! The lights are more involved than normal lights, too, of course! You didn't think we would wimp out now? There are 3 different light sources in each room:
  1. Main wall light - this will come on with a switch by the door and will be the primary light in the room. This is easy - simply hook it up to the wires and attach to the wall.
  2. Closet lights - these are also relatively easy - they will attach to the beam over the closet. Switch is just outside the closet.
  3. Accent lighting - oh, you know we had to go there! Every other room in the house has the beam lighting, so the guest bedroom and office can be no difference. Since we put in an extra window, we had to make some fake beams to go across the rooms. As I type this, Dave is honing the beams into shape. Then we can paint them. And then we can install the little puck lights. These will also be switched by the door.
  • There is also the matter of the ceiling in the "office", but that is a large can of worms...
  • Oh, and curtains - curtains are good.
