Okay, for the record, we are not remodeling just because we think the bathrooms are ugly or out-dated. I mean, that's of course, part of it, but there a few other driving forces. The small size and the darkness (no windows) were certainly the impetus. But the other factor which could no longer be ignored was that both showers were leaking. The shower which no longer exists, would emit a pool of water into the hallway after we showered. We never really knew where it was leaking, but we figured it was buried back in the walls. Well, when we opened it up, we found one of the joints was leaking and the wood was water-damaged and starting to rot.
The other shower - the small one - is likely responsible for what we are calling "the Virgin Mary". Surely you too can see the image of The Virgin in this wall.
Or, maybe it's just water damage. But, either way, it's time for some new showers.
