Another productive weekend comes to a close. And yet, we have long given up the hope of being done for next weekend's guests. Thus, they'll get the construction tour. That said, they will see something that looks a lot like a bedroom and a little like a bathroom if you use your imagination.
Spent the weekend laying down plywood for the subfloor. The sheets need to be screwed into the floor joists. The screws are (we think, we've been told, and we hope) suppose to be less likely to squeak over time than nails. Our squeaky floor, we found out upon tearing some of it up, is due to the subfloor nails moving in and out of the joists, not to the floor boards rubbing against each other, as is often the case with hardwood flooring.
Also did a lot of painting: 2 coats of "Arbor Vine" in the bedroom and closet area. It looks kind of gray in the photo, but it is actually a very serene shade of green. We think it will work well with the dark beams and bamboo floor.
Speaking of floor. We picked up the bamboo for the floor. Well, most of it. They still owe us 2 boxes. The boards are suppose to acclimate to the room for a few days.
And the last and probably most exciting and possibly most important thing we did this weekend was to test out the waterproofing of the shower floor and to flush out the water pipes. The pipes get solder and probably other nasty stuff in them when you solder them in, so they need to be flushed out so that stuff doesn't clog up your fancy, new fixtures. And we have a lot of fixtures, so there was a lot of flushing to be done. Water on, water off. Water on, water off. 4 body jets, 2 shower heads, 3 control valves, sink hot & sink cold, tub faucet and tub hand-shower, and toilet. That's a total of 14 off/on cycles.
Then we filled up the floor of the shower with water and let it sit. For hours. We checked for mud in the crawl space. We marked the level of the water. It didn't go down in 5 hours, so we figure we're water tight. Woo-hoo! Maybe this Kerdi stuff is worth all the effort after all. I'll post the photo in a bit. It's pretty cool.
