Shower (sub) floor

After a lovely 4-day weekend without working on the construction site, we're back at it full force. This week, the porcelain tile which will serve basically as a subfloor in the shower, was laid. We used basic 6-inch square white tiles. The cheapest available from Home Depot.

Hopefully this weekend we'll have time to grout it. We are also hoping to get the Ipe wall installed, although there is a lot of figuring for this because the Ipe is so hard. It is difficult to screw down. We will also start building the Ipe floor grate - this will be the actual floor of the shower. It will sit on top of the tile pictured above, so we will never really see those tiles.

After the Ipe wall is in, we will get to work on the travertine walls. We'll need to cut our 18x18 tiles in half, so they will be 9" by 18" rectangles. I did a layout drawing so we can minimize our cuts and not have small tiles at the edges, so it looks amateurish, like the tile in our current bathroom...
