Let There Be Light!

Last weekend we were a little under the weather, but we did manage to hook up the new breakers for the bedroom and bath. That meant we could do some electrical work in the evenings this week. I.e., quiet work which won't wake the neighborhood after the sun goes down.

Thus, we installed outlets, switches, and fancy dimmer switches (pictured left). The bathroom outlets need to be GFCI. Also, we installed the reset switch for the heated floor. We put in several dimmers so we can control the lighting to set the mood.

We also hooked up electricity for the powered skylight. It's quite fun! It has a remote control to lower and raise it. It also has a timer function which will open it for a set duration and then close it. Perhaps the best feature, however, is one we haven't yet tested, which is the rain-sensing closure. The skylight, in theory, will close if it senses rain. Well, we didn't have it hooked up in time to test when it rained the other day, but we may be able to test it soon. Otherwise I am getting on the roof with a hose.

We also installed lights! Lots of lights. And this was very exciting for several reasons. One, we can get rid of the ugly construction lights which were necessary but always seemed to be in the way. Two, we can now walk into that part of the house as if it were any other part of the house after sunset, by say just flipping a switch. And three, we can see how cool the lights look. We have, as I mentioned, lots of dimmer, but we also have some nice mood lighting of various sorts.

Pictured are some of our fixtures - some with lights off and some with lights on.

These last lights are our custom-designed over-the-window lighting which provides a nice ambient mood-lighting for over the bed. We installed similar fixtures in the living room.
