Hook, Line, and SINK

After the excitement of central heating in the master suite yesterday (and waking up to sub-40-degree temps this morning), today's accomplishments may appear (a) less time-consuming and filthy, and (b) less profound, yet on some level, this is a 3/4 mark on the project. In other words, three of the four major (dare I say essential?) plumbing components are now hooked-up and functional. Gratifying indeed. The four being: sink, shower, tub, and toilet (the latter remains in the box). But first...

You knew it there was more to heating than just a pretty duct. There must be a pretty vent cover. Alas, we have never seen one. The ones in the house now are metal, kinda rusting and protude up from the floor in an unseemly manner. We had to do better. thus, we decided we could make our own flush-mount grate. But first, we need to route out (with the router), a platform around the vent for the grate to sit on. It made a huge mess, and looks like so:
The vent grates are on the "future" agenda... Stay tuned!

Naturally, that took most of the day. So it was nearly 4pm when we got started on putting in the sink. We mounted the sink to the wall on a board screwed into the wall studs. Leveled it, and installed the faucet, knobs and drain, but the full drain hook-up and water inlets required a trip to the hardware store. This photo was taken while Dave was at said hardware store. So you can see the sink and trim, but the water is not yet hooked up.

We managed to get all the pipes in order and then call it a day. This sink is meant to be installed on a shelf-type mount. We will build the shelves around the sink out of ipe. Also, stay tuned...
