A ton of dirt and gravel - what fun! Okay, dirt and gravel by the cubic yard, technically. But still - huge piles of dirt and gravel were delivered on Friday to the front of our house. Making it a little bit difficult to get a car in the carport. Hmmm....
So the work begins on the backyard. Actually, it began in earnest while I was in Italy. Dave built a lovely retaining wall for the lower terrace. It looks like this:
This weekend, we hauled a lot of gravel and dirt from the front of the house (pictured above in large piles) to the back of the house (pictured below). Did I ever mention how I should thank my parents for sending me to college? I am not sure I could survive a life in manual labor.
There remains a substantial amount of rocks and dirt in front of our house. This is for the second terrace. We pounded (by which I mean Dave pounded) in the stakes for the next wall and we still need to create the deadman or bracing pieces. Then we can begin filling in that layer. We think we have enough gravel, but may be a little lower on dirt than we calculated. The dirt packed down quite a bit.
Anyway, hopefully it will not be too long before we can start some plantings. Fun!
