In September 2001, when much of the country was hunkering down, we made the largest purchase of our lives: a 1950's house one block from where we were renting. But not just any mid-century home - one that needed a lot of TLC. It could gently be called a fixer-upper. We gutted the kitchen, put in some windows for a view, and now after a few years of rest, we embark again on more remodeling projects.
